Beautifully detailed double hemisphere map of the world by Samuel Augustus Mitchell Jr., 1867. In addition to authentic hand coloring, this antique map features a diagram of the longest river systems in the world, along with other smaller hemispheric projections. S.A. Mitchell Jr. inherited the Mitchell Company in 1860 from his father, the renowned American geographer Samuel Augustus Mitchell. The Mitchell Company specialized in the production of school atlases and wall maps of America and was one of the pioneers of steel plate engraving.
Original antique map on paper displayed on a white mat with a gold border. Mat fits a standard-size frame. Archival plastic sleeve and Certificate of Authenticity included. Map, 13.5″L x 11.5″H; mat, 20″L x 16″H.
