Cassell's bird prints, as they are commonly known, were published in several editions and books in the 1870's in England. The most famous of them is The Illustrated Book of Poultry by Lewis Wright.
All the images were produced using high quality chromolithography, whereby multiple different lithographic stones using oily inks were repeatedly printed on the paper, building up a beautiful depth of color.
Cassel & Co is a British book publishing house, found in 1848 by John Cassell (1817-1865). These antique prints are very popular still today, so much so that there are many repoduction and posters available
