This is a small painting of extraordinary detail that a French antique dealer and friend of ours had found. It was among a handful of paintings included in a travel watercolor book of a young French woman by the name of Blanche Delastre during her travels in France between 1862 to 1864. She dated several of her paintings in ink
The scenes she depicted cover three different regions of France: Normandy including its coast, towns surrounding Paris and the high mountains of the French Alps. Some of her paintings are nearly identical except for the amusing fact that they were painted on different days and that the figures and skies are different. A few of the paintings were oval in shape while others are rectangular and covered the whole page.
